Automotive Service Excellence
Until the early 1970s, consumers had no way to distinguish between incompetent and competent mechanics. In response to this need, the independent, non-profit National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was established in 1972.
ASE's mission is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service through the testing and certification of repair and service professionals.
At present there are over 420,000 professionals with current certifications. They work in every segment of the automotive service industry: car and truck dealerships, independent garages, fleets, service stations, franchises, and more.
Here's how ASE certification works: Prospective candidates register for and take one or more of ASE's 40-plus exams. The tests are grouped into specialties for automobile, medium/heavy truck, truck equipment, school bus, and collision repair technicians as well as engine machinists, alternate fuels technicians, parts specialists, collision damage estimators and auto service consultants.
Upon passing at least one exam and after providing proof of two years of relevant work experience, the test taker becomes ASE certified. Certification, however, is not for life. To remain certified, those with ASE credentials must be retested every five years.
The tests, which are conducted twice a year at over 700 locations around the country, are administered by ACT, known for its academic and occupational testing programs. The exams stress knowledge of job-related skills. They are no cinch to pass; approximately one out of three test takers fails.
Consumers benefit from ASE certification. It is a valuable yardstick by which to measure the knowledge and skills of individual technicians as well as the commitment to quality of the repair facility employing ASE-certified professionals.
ASE-certified professionals usually wear blue and white ASE insignia and carry credentials listing their exact area(s) of expertise (brakes, engine repair, etc.), while employers often display their technicians' credentials in the customer waiting area.
Consumers should look for facilities that display the ASE Blue Seal of Excellence© logo.
Automotive Service Excellence
I was in town visiting my son and then was headed to Mexico. My pickup has had an annoying and tiring vibration for a while. I have had several mechanics look at it, balanced the wheels, and front end alignment while in Sierra Vista. Nothing helped. My son recommended Petit's because a mechanic told him they were good and trustworthy. When I called they were booked solid; however, they agreed to sandwich me in. Mike called after 20 minutes and said he had found the problem. There was a ginormous dent in my aluminum driveshaft. He ordered the part from LA and two mechanics replaced the driveshaft and put on two belts that were worn and cracking. My truck is now a joy to drive! He also greased something on the steering that apparently all the blind mechanics missed, cleaned something on the carburetor and voila! I love these guys because my trip will now be much less stressful not getting shaken up in a bucket of bolts. When I saw the old driveshaft it was actually curved. Five different "so called" mechanics had this on a lift and didn't see this obvious problem. If you need your car or truck repaired, go to Petit's. You will not be sorry!
Exceptional service, will never sell you something you don't need. Honesty is their policy.
I truly wish I had such a reliable and trustworthy shop in my hometown. From the moment I walked in the door, I was treated like a lifelong customer. An impressive place and the only shop you should consider in Sierra Vista.
It's been about 6 years since I was in the area. I did a little custom work to my car. Ended up with a parts error from Auto Zone that caused problems, but this place worked with me for an extremely good price. They were the third place I went to, didn't hustle me, talked with me about the issues, and we came to a resolution to the problem. This guy was a true to life honest mechanic, one of the best I've ever been to. I would choose him over a dealer 10/10 times!
If you're looking for a company that is owned and operated by truly good people, Petit's is the auto care shop for you! I have the utmost appreciation and gratitude for everyone at Petit's! They are super friendly, caring, and knowledgeable. Their customer service is second to none, they're great at what they do, and their prices are great...I highly recommend Petit's for all your automotive needs...I love you guys :)
My best friend turned me on to this place. He loves them and the service. I've since used them and I can see why my friend loves them. They are honest, don't bs people, and what surprised me the most were the fair prices. I didn't feel like I was making a boat payment. They also provided me with a "what to expect" list of services that a car my age and mileage should be addressed in the up coming months, rotation schedule, lubes suggested, etc. My car runs great because of them!
